Banishing the Boredom

Kate Maupin

Boredom doesn’t have to be a necessary part of life for a gifted student. However, many gifted children lack both the resources and the practice with dealing with their boredom, and some turn to negative outlets when left to their own devices. Banishing the Boredom discusses several tools and techniques for helping bored students, including what skills to teach them, and how to encourage them to be their own advocate when they aren’t being challenged. Kate Maupin is a gifted-education teacher and enrichment specialist and author of the book: Cheating, Dishonesty, and Manipulation: Why Bright Kids Do It. She is an alumna of the National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented at UCONN, and has worked with students throughout New England, China, and Germany before settling in CT where she works with students K-6.
