Asynchrony in Gifted Students’ Development

Gifted students can exhibit a variety of special social-emotional needs which may be a result of asynchrony.  Asynchrony simply means that gifted children’s cognitive, affective, and/or physical traits often do not develop together at the same rate.  For example, a gifted student’s cognitive abilities may enable him to read advanced materials, but he may not emotionally be prepared to deal with the content of what he is reading. Our professionals will help you understand gifted students’ asynchrony and the social-emotional issues that can result.
