Bob Bloom

The Connecticut Office of the Arts awarded certification as a "Master Teaching Artist" to Bob Bloom in 1997. His interactive, arts-integration drumming programs are presented in settings including education, disabilities, social work, concert, eldercare, and recreation. To foster curiosity, imagination, creativity, collaboration, and esteem, Bob leads students in grades pre-kindergarten to twelve to enjoy playing a colorful array of drums hands-on. They engage rhythm patterns to accompany him as he sings music that has catchy beats, cool melodies, and great lyrics. Additionally, the students learn how to invent their own rhythm patterns through the use of a language-based method. His professional development workshops enable educators and service providers to be the leaders of interactive, arts-integration drumming sessions. Organizations and learning centers that have presented the workshops include: New England League of Middle Schools; Neag Center for Gifted Education and Talent Development; Hartford Board of Education; Percussive Arts Society; American Music Therapy Association; Connecticut Office of the Arts "Higher Order Thinking Schools"; National Association for Music Education; Hartt School of Music; Southern Connecticut State University; University of Connecticut School of Music. Bob served from 2007 to 2010 as chair of the Interactive Drumming Committee of The Percussive Arts Society, the largest percussion organization in the world.
